[Phoenix] — July 3, 2023 — Last month, EnKoat’s CEO Dr. Matthew Aguayo made waves during the Wells Fargo IN2 closeout webinar, hosted by the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Among the thirteen IN2 companies showcased, EnKoat stood out as one of the five startups revolutionizing energy efficiency in commercial buildings.
EnKoat’s collaboration with NREL yielded impressive results, validating their technology’s performance and optimizing their products using state-of-the-art NREL laboratory facilities. Leveraging the expertise of NREL scientists, EnKoat surpassed existing market solutions with their groundbreaking Thermal Barrier System, showcasing 3x higher thermal performance than current reflective coatings.
Beyond experimental work, EnKoat harnessed the power of NREL’s supercomputer facilities to simulate their technology’s impact on the entire US building stock. Through comprehensive simulations, EnKoat’s visionary approach identifies key regions where their innovations can make significant strides in energy savings, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and cost efficiency.
During the presentation, CEO Matthew Aguayo emphasized the momentous impact of this collaboration, stating, “This validation from NREL scientists marks a major milestone in EnKoat’s journey to decarbonize the built environment for a sustainable future. Understanding the real-world performance of our technology and the resulting energy savings is immensely powerful. This summer, we’re fast-tracking our commercialization efforts by introducing our next-gen products to the markets we identified through this joint endeavor.” With EnKoat at the forefront, a new era of sustainable practices in the built environment is on the horizon.

About the Wells Fargo Innovation Incubator (IN2)
Launched in 2014 with an initial $10 million commitment by the Wells Fargo Foundation, and expanded in 2017, the Wells Fargo Innovation Incubator (IN2) (www.in2ecosystem) is now a $50 million program supporting innovative technologies and innovators. The program is managed and run out of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). IN2 provides technical assistance that leverages the capabilities, facilities, equipment and the deep expertise that exists at NREL and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center to help companies de-risk technologies and ease their path to market adoption and deployment. IN2 also fosters the cleantech ecosystem through our Channel Partners awards program.
